FIRST: Mentoring and role modeling are important ways to have an impact on high school students. For the 2019-20 academic year, CS@Mines and DECtech (a STEM program at Mines that was started by a CS faculty member) are looking to partner with local high school teachers to help foster and maintain female and underrepresented student interest in CS. Please complete the following form if you are interested in having a CS@Mines female and/or underrepresented student somehow involved in your CS course this academic year: https://forms.gle/YcUynbAPc5KiDqou8. If you complete the form SOON, we’ll try and setup a Mines student to visit your classroom on a regular basis to offer (for example) debugging support. See more details here: https://tech.mines.edu/create/index.html

SECOND: Recognizing female students in computing is another important way to encourage high school girls in computing. CS@Mines is, once again, hosting the NCWIT Aspirations event this year. Please nominate your 9th-12th grade #womxnintech with any level of computing experience for this @NCWITAIC Award. The award is open to all students who self-identify as women, genderqueer, or non-binary. Recipients of the NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing receive various prizes, like computing resources, gadgets, swag, scholarships internship opportunities, entry to a peer-network, and more. #NCWITAiC20. Applications are already open! See details here: www.aspirations.org/AiCHSAward

LASTLY: CS@Mines looks forward to hosting you on Mines campus Tuesday, September 24th (6-8pm), for our 1st CSTA Colorado Meeting of the year. CS@Mines will provide dinner and swag to all teaches who RSVP!
